R. Zavelberg
Rolf Zavelberg (1959) has been working as a light artist since 1995. He became especially well-known for his realisation of, and lighting for concerts in Cologne. In this city he has established, together with Markus Stockhausen, the series of concerts KLANGVISIONEN (sound-visions) over the last years, with mostly intuitive music, which is enjoying high recognition far beyond the city's limits. Fine & delicate ornamentations using light, flower arrangements and original paintings are the stylistic devices he uses for designing space. Most important to him, he says, is a 'light that comforts the listeners, helping create a space where they can listen more deeply to the music...'
The Tonhalle Duesseldorf commissioned him to carry out the light and stage design for the performance KLANGVISIONEN in April 2004, in which he 'painted images of light' live to the music of Markus Stockhausen. A year later he brought the sound-light-video installation VIBRATIONS with Markus Stockhausen into being, in the rotunda of the Tonhalle.
Other performances as a light artist brought Rolf Zavelberg to, amongst other places, the Stiftskirche church in Enger, the Bahnhof Rolandseck museum, the St. Paul's Church in Cologne (Church Music Festival- '100 years of St Paul'), the St. Dionysius Church in Duisburg Muendelheim ('Night of the Arts') and the Böckel Estate ('Wege durchs Land – Roads through the Country'). He designed the 'Raum der Stille' (Space of Silence) in the “European Academy for Music & the Performing Arts Palazzo Ricci” in Montepulciano/Tuscany.
